gemiusHeatMap Methodology

Clicking data collection

The gemiusHeatMap study uses cookies technology which enables us to identify the users of a particular website included in the study without breaching their privacy. The data are obtained through calculating scripts located in the code of the websites included in the study.

When an Internet user clicks on any link on the website included in the study, gemiusHeatMap sends information about the click to the Gemius server.

Data Processing

Information on clicks, which is collected by the tracking scripts, is saved on Gemius central servers, from where it is then transferred to the Gemius processing centre. There, the data are analysed to provide you with real-time statistics. Data are systematically available to clients through the Gemius’ proprietary gemiusHeatMap application. This application enables you to simultaneously display the studied web site and to analyse the data on how users clicked across it.

Available Statistics

Statistics related to clicks are calculated separately for each Internet website (separate websites are differentiated on the basis of their URL addresses).

These statistics are available for several time periods:

  • previous hour
  • current or previous day
  • current or previous week
  • current or previous month
  • custom period - it is possible to define your custom period in the calendar.

If you would like additional information concerning the methodology, feel free to contact Gemius.
